A Disease That Allowed Torrents of Creativity

Frontal temporal dementia (FTD) describes a range of conditions in which the frontal and temporal lobe degenerate, leading to alterations in a patient’s personality and eventually loss of many abilities, including speech and social functioning. In rare forms, however, FTD may cause reorganization of the brain’s circuitry, thus leading to a flood of artistic ability and creativity. This is the story of Dr. Anne Adams, a former scientist turned artist when she began suffering the symptoms of FTD.

Chimeras of mythology are beasts made up of parts of a lion, snake and goat - real life chimeras, however, are people born with differeng sets of DNA in different cells due to the fusion of embryos in the womb at the earliest stages of cellular development.
